Nissan Spec-V: Part 13: Adding a Fire System

Fire is a driver’s worst enemy, so our team pays the utmost attention to safety. To help reduce the driver’s risk in case of fire, we installed a Safecraft RS Fires system. The Safecraft system is a lightweight aluminum bottle system that consists of 10 pounds of Halon 1301.

Halon puts out fires fast, is non-toxic and leaves no corrosive residue that can damage engine and electrical components

The RS system also features a billet-like swiveling discharge head, which makes the installation easier, because you have flexibility when mounting the plumbing and release cables.

We used two discharge nozzles: a medium-volume nozzle for the engine compartment and a high-volume nozzle for the interior.

We also used the optional two-release handle system and mounted the activation knobs where both the driver and rescue workers could easily activate the system from inside or outside the car.

We installed the tank to the brackets we had welded to the cage. This is a great feature, because many fire systems have weak mounts that can break in a crash, allowing the bottle to become a dangerous projectile.
The completed job shows our cleanly routed discharge lines and activation cables.
