With seven entries, including two past champions, participating in the 2012 Griffin King of the Hammers event in Johnson Valley, Nitto® Tire was ready to do battle in the desert.  A brand new competition Trail Grappler K-spec tire was designed specifically to handle the treacherous terrain and obstacles that prevent over half the entries from even finishing the race.  On February 10th, 136 competitors set out to win what is considered to be the toughest one day off-road race in the world.  After starting the race in 13th, Nitto® Tire sponsored driver, Derek West navigated his way through the field and easily conquered the obstacle Chocolate Thunder, a difficult rock climb, which helped propel him to a 4th place finish with a time of 7:20:24.  Fellow Nitto® Tire sponsored driver, former winner Loren Healy, overcame a poor qualifying position and raced his way up to the 5th position, finishing in 7:22:05.  Overall, it was a very successful day for the Nitto® Tire teams and hopes are high for the 2013 event.
